THE HULBERT EXPERIENCE
The West Fargo community has long been a community of swimmers. West Fargo Public Schools’ original indoor pool opened in 1976 and with it came an opportunity for the school district to build a long-lasting relationship with the community’s swimming families. After nearly forty years, the swimming pool was identified as an area in need of improvement. In 2015, a $98.1 million school district bond referendum was passed by voters to address the growing needs of the school district and the community. Included in the bond package was $18.3 million for the construction of a new aquatic center.
The state-of-the-art facility was designed around the acquisition of the 2016 Olympic Trials pool used in Omaha, Nebraska. The pool was purchased and donated by UP Aquatics, a group of regional philanthropists with a passion for swimming and diving. In addition to the bond, UP Aquatics raised $3.2 million to upgrade the project’s initial construction plans. With the fundraised dollars, the facility installed a Colorado Time System, enhanced diving board platforms, and additional spectator seating.
Today, Hulbert Aquatic Center is home to the school district’s high school boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams: the West Fargo Packers, the Sheyenne Mustangs, and the Horace Hawks.
