LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

The American Red Cross Lifeguard course provides entry-level participants with the knowledge and skill to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. Participants will also be able to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. All participants must complete the prerequisites listed below and attend all dates in their session in order to complete the certification.

The Hulbert Aquatic Center will cover the cost of class for new and current staff members who commit to working for at least 3 months after the final date of class. Please contact Hulbert Aquatic Staff at 701-356-7630 for more information. 

CLASS SCHEDULE

May 30 - June 1 - FULL

 

Dates: June 16–20
Time: 3:00–7:30 PM each day

This is a blended learning course, which includes 6 hours of required online coursework to be completed prior to the first in-person session. Access to the online materials will be sent out on June 4.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Class Requirements

  1. Candidates must be 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled class session of the course. 
  2. In sequence, swim 150 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes using only your legs, and swim 50 yards continuously (all swimming must be free or breaststroke)
  3. Complete a timed event in one minute and 40 seconds, swim 20 yards front crawl, remove a 10-pound brick off of the bottom of a 7 to 10-foot pool section, swim on your back, and only kicking with a brick for 15 yards.
